ABOUT DAN GRIFFIN:
Dan Griffin is the head baker and driving force of Lovejoy Bakers. His love of baking and fine-tuned recipes and techniques will be showcased at Portland’s newest bakery.
As long time production manager at Pearl Bakery in Portland and Viennoiserie baker at noted Artisan Bakers in Sonoma California, Dan brings nearly 15 years of experience to this new venture. Both teacher and student, Dan took a brief sabbatical from his rising career to apprentice at the San Francisco Baking Institute under luminary bakers Michel Suas, Didier Rosada and Phillipe LeCorre.
Surprisingly, or perhaps not so, Dan is also an excellent and instinctive cook. Lovejoy Bakers offers a full lunch and light snack menu of his creations as well.
Avid cyclist and gardener, Dan and his wife Jessamyn live in a Northeast Portland ranch they’ve tenderly brought back to its original glory.

THE STORY BEHIND THE BAKERY:
Lovejoy Bakers is a collaboration between Dan Griffin (the Baker) and Marc and Tracy Frankel (owners of Pizzicato Pizza in Portland).
The partnership came about through a chance meeting early in 2009 when Dan was introduced to Marc through a mutual friend. Dan, working as head baker at Pearl Bakery, was looking for more freedom and creativity by getting into business for himself. Marc, who had always dreamed of opening a bakery (and even took time off from the pizza business to go to baking school) thought a partnership might be just the ticket for both men to realize their dreams.

From the first handshake, Dan and Marc knew that Lovejoy Bakers would soon become a reality. Their shared vision is based upon the art and craft of bread making. From breakfast pastries to delicate ficelles, ciabattas large and small, to cookies, cakes, tarts and Danish – Lovejoy Bakers is at its heart a loving testament to the miracle of flour mixed with water. Add yeast, salt, sometimes sugar, and a good amount of sweet cream butter, and amidst the rain of a typical Portland day, find pleasure in small things and comfort in good food.

Featured above is our signature almond croissant. We also serve a delightful cafe menu with a rotating selection of delicious sandwiches on our fresh bread and rolls, along with seasonal salads and homemade soups. Starting in late June we will unveil our evening menu of small plates and light dinner options.
